John Churchill Marlborough

John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), was one of England's greatest generals and statesmen, renowned for leading British and allied forces to decisive victories over Louis XIV of France, including the battles of Blenheim (1704), Ramillies (1706), Oudenarde (1708), and Malplaquet (1709).[1][2] Born into an impoverished gentry family, he rose through military service starting in 1667, navigated political intrigues during the Glorious Revolution, and briefly fell from favor before regaining prominence under George I.[2][4] He never lost a battle and was the ancestor of Winston Churchill, who later wrote his biography.[3][2]
