John Ballantyne
John Ballantyne (1774–1821) was a Scottish publisher renowned for his close collaboration with Sir Walter Scott, establishing John Ballantyne and Co. in 1809 to publish Scott's works, including the highly successful 'The Lady of the Lake' in 1810. He authored a novel titled 'The Widow's Lodgings,' which reached a second edition despite criticism, and his business ultimately failed, leaving him bankrupt at death, though he bequeathed £2,000 to Scott in his will.[1][6]
