John Ayto

John Ayto is a British lexicographer and author known for his extensive dictionaries on the English language, including the Oxford Dictionary of Slang, the Bloomsbury Dictionary of Word Origins, and Twentieth Century Words. He began his career at Longman in 1974, later becoming a freelance lexicographer and contributing to major publications such as the Observer and the Oxford Companion to Food.
