John Aubrey

John Aubrey (1626–1697) was an English antiquary, biographer, and natural philosopher best known for Brief Lives, a vivid collection of short biographical sketches of his contemporaries and predecessors. He also made important early contributions to archaeology and the study of prehistoric monuments in southern England, including Avebury and Stonehenge.
