John A. Lomax

John A. Lomax was an American musicologist and folklorist who pioneered the collection and preservation of American folk music, particularly cowboy songs and African American spirituals. He is best known for his work with the Library of Congress and for mentoring his son Alan Lomax, with whom he recorded thousands of traditional songs.
