Jocelyn Herbert

Jocelyn Herbert (1917–2003) was a British stage designer renowned for her minimalistic and text-attentive approach that revolutionized postwar theatre design.[1][2][3] She collaborated closely with directors like George Devine at the Royal Court Theatre and Samuel Beckett, contributing to world premieres of classic plays and the design of the National Theatre.[1][2] Trained at the Slade School of Art and Motley, her work shifted the relationship between writer, director, and designer in 20th-century British theatre.[1][3]
