Joanna Murray-Smith

Joanna Murray-Smith is an acclaimed Australian playwright, screenwriter, novelist, and librettist whose works have been performed worldwide, including on Broadway and the West End. Born in Mount Eliza, Victoria, she is the daughter of literary editor Stephen Murray-Smith and achieved early success with plays like Honour, followed by international recognition for works such as The Female of the Species and Julia. In 2025, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for her contributions to the performing arts.
