Joan Beck

Joan Wagner Beck was a pioneering journalist and author who wrote the 'You and Your Child' column for the Chicago Tribune starting in the 1960s and became the first woman with a regular op-ed column there, later joining its editorial board. She authored four books on child care and parenting, including 'How to Raise a Brighter Child,' translated into eight languages. A member of the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame, she died in 1998 at age 75.
