Jeff Todd Titon
Jeff Todd Titon (born 1943) is an American ethnomusicologist, folklorist, and Professor Emeritus of Music at Brown University. He earned a B.A. from Amherst College in 1965 and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota, with his dissertation on the ethnomusicology of downhome blues phonograph records. Renowned for works like Early Downhome Blues: A Musical and Cultural Analysis (1977) and Powerhouse for God (1988), he has made significant contributions to blues studies, Appalachian music, and ecomusicology over more than 50 years.
