Jeanette Winter
Jeanette Winter (1939–2025) was an acclaimed American author and illustrator of children's books, best known for her picture book biographies highlighting notable women in history, activists, artists, and figures like Malala, Greta Thunberg, and the Williams sisters.[2][3] Born in Chicago to Swedish immigrants, she developed an early interest in visual arts, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Iowa, and debuted with The Christmas Visitors in 1968, going on to publish over 65 self-illustrated works featuring her signature simple, folk-art-inspired style.[1][2][3] She passed away in New York City at age 86 from heart and kidney failure.[3][4]
