Jean-Paul Brodeur

Jean-Paul Brodeur (1943-2010) was a leading criminologist and professor at the École de criminologie of the Université de Montréal. He held a master's degree from the Université de Montréal (1967) and a doctorate in philosophy from the Université de Paris (1975), and served as director of the Centre international de criminologie comparée from 1988-1996 and 2004-2010. He is best known for introducing the influential distinction between 'high policing' and 'low policing' in his 1983 publication, a concept that became foundational in policing studies.
