Janwillem van de Wtering
Janwillem van de Wetering (1931-2008) was a Dutch writer, businessman, and adventurer known for his Amsterdam police detective series featuring Grijpstra and De Gier, as well as an autobiographical Zen trilogy including The Empty Mirror. In 1958, as a young man seeking meaning, he traveled to the Far East and trained in a Japanese Zen monastery. He infused his philosophical insights into both fiction and non-fiction, earning the French Grand Prix de Littérature Policière in 1984.
