James Wood

James Douglas Graham Wood, born 1 November 1965 in Durham, England, is a prominent English literary critic, essayist, and novelist. He served as chief literary critic for The Guardian from 1992 to 1995 and is currently a Professor of the Practice of Literary Criticism at Harvard University and a staff writer at The New Yorker. His notable works include the essay collections The Broken Estate and The Irresponsible Self, the novel The Book Against God, and the critical study How Fiction Works.
