James Rumford
James Rumford is an author and illustrator of children's books born on August 13, 1948, in California. He has studied more than a dozen languages and worked in the Peace Corps in Chad and Afghanistan, as well as taught in Rwanda, experiences that inform his award-winning picture books that combine storytelling, artwork, and elements of native languages and lore. His notable works include Sequoyah: The Cherokee Man Who Gave His People Writing, Traveling Man: The Journey of Ibn Battuta 1325-1354, and Rain School.
