James Mecham

James Harlan Mechem was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1923 and raised in Topeka, where he became a writer after serving in the Army and attending the University of Iowa. He worked as a technical writer for Boeing and Beech in Wichita for over thirty years while publishing small literary magazines and contributing to various journals. After his wife's death in 1996, he moved to Manhattan, New York, and later returned to Kansas, where he died on December 23, 2016, at the age of 93.
