James Lovelock

James Ephraim Lovelock (1919–2022) was an English chemist, inventor, and independent scientist best known for developing the Gaia hypothesis, which posits that Earth functions as a self-regulating system akin to a living organism.[1][2] He invented the electron-capture detector, crucial for detecting environmental pollutants like CFCs and advancing ozone depletion research.[1][2] Lovelock authored numerous books on Gaia theory and contributed to fields including medicine, biology, and geophysiology.[4]
