James Hogg
James Hogg (1770–1835), known as 'The Ettrick Shepherd,' was a Scottish poet, novelist, and essayist who worked as a shepherd and was largely self-educated. A friend of Sir Walter Scott and influenced by Robert Burns, he is best remembered for his novel *The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner* (1824) and his collections of folk poetry like *Jacobite Reliques*. Despite financial struggles from farming, he significantly contributed to Scottish literature and culture.
