James Gavin

James Gavin is a Manhattan-born author, freelance journalist, and photographer known for his acclaimed biographies of entertainers such as Peggy Lee, Rita Hayworth, and George Michael. A graduate of Fordham University, he has contributed to the New York Times, Vanity Fair, and other publications, earning two ASCAP Deems Taylor-Virgil Thomson Awards for music journalism and a Grammy nomination. His sixth book, a biography of jazz singer Anita O'Day, is scheduled for release in January 2026.
