James E Birren
James E. Birren (1918-2016) was a pioneering American gerontologist who founded the first graduate school of gerontology in the nation at USC and established the field's foundational research programs at the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Aging. He developed Guided Autobiography, a life review methodology, and published over 250 papers while serving as the inaugural dean of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, the first and largest school of gerontology in the world.
