James Deotis Roberts

J. Deotis Roberts (1927–2022) was a pioneering African American theologian and a key architect of the Black Theology movement alongside James Cone, emphasizing reconciliation, justice, and the integration of Black experiences with Christian theology. He authored over fourteen books, including 'A Black Political Theology' and 'Liberation and Reconciliation,' and held prominent academic roles such as professor at Howard University School of Religion (1958–1980), president of the Interdenominational Theological Center (1980–1983), and the first Black president of the American Theological Society (1994–1995).[1][2][3][5]
