James Dennistoun

James Dennistoun (1803-1855) was a Scottish antiquary, advocate, and art collector, born in Dumbartonshire as the eldest son of James Dennistoun and Mary Ramsay. Educated at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, he joined the Faculty of Advocates in 1824 and amassed a nationally important collection of charters and papers now held at the University of Edinburgh. He died at 119 George Street, Edinburgh, on 13 February 1855.
