James A. Warner

James A. Warner was an American photographer and photo-book author whose work chronicled traditional communities, rural life, and timeless landscapes in a painterly, contemplative style.[1] Born in Detroit, he attended Columbia University before becoming a businessman, then turned to photography in the 1960s on doctor's advice, achieving breakthrough success with 'The Gentle People: A Portrait of the Amish' in 1969, which sold 320,000 copies.[1] Over his prolific retirement career, he produced 13 photo-books, including 'The Quiet Land' and 'Chesapeake: A Portrait of the Bay Country'.[1][5]
