James A. Banks

James Albert Banks (born September 24, 1941) is an American educator widely recognized as the 'father of multicultural education' for his pioneering research and foundational contributions to the field. He is the Kerry and Linda Killinger Endowed Chair in Diversity Studies Emeritus and founding director of the University of Washington's Center for Multicultural Education, now the Banks Center for Educational Justice. Banks has authored or edited over 20 books and more than 100 journal articles focusing on multicultural education, social studies, and diversity and citizenship education.
