Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm (1785–1863) was a German author, linguist, philologist, jurist, and folklorist, best known as the older brother of Wilhelm Grimm and co-author of the renowned Grimm's Fairy Tales collection, published starting in 1812. He formulated Grimm's Law in linguistics, co-authored the Deutsches Wörterbuch, and contributed significantly to Germanic philology and mythology studies. After studying law at the University of Marburg, he worked as a librarian and professor, remaining unmarried until his death.
