Jacco van Sterkenburg

Prof. Dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg is an Associate Professor and Endowed Professor of 'Race', Inclusion, and Communication, specifically in relation to football and media, at the Department of Media & Communication, Erasmus University Rotterdam.[1][2] He earned his PhD from the Humanities faculty of Utrecht University in 2011 and holds an MA (Drs.) in Psychology with a specialization in Cross-cultural Psychology from the same university.[1][2] His research focuses on racism, discrimination, media inclusion, diversity, race/ethnicity, gender in sports media, and he was appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the IDEA Center at Erasmus University effective February 1, 2026.[3]
