J W Baldwin

James Baldwin (1924–1987) was an American writer, essayist, novelist, and social critic born in Harlem, New York City. His work, including *Go Tell It on the Mountain*, *Giovanni’s Room*, and *The Fire Next Time*, explored race, sexuality, religion, and identity, and he became one of the most influential voices in American literature and civil rights commentary.
