J. K. Rowling, born Joanne Rowling, is a British author best known for creating the Harry Potter series, a seven-book saga about a young wizard's adventures at Hogwarts School.[1][2] She conceived the idea in 1990 while working for Amnesty International, wrote the first book after personal hardships including her mother's death and divorce, and achieved global success with its 1997 publication.[1][3] Rowling has also written adult fiction like The Casual Vacancy and crime novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.[2][3]
