J. Dunbar

Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906) was an influential American poet, novelist, and short story writer who emerged as one of the first Black writers to gain international recognition. Born to formerly enslaved parents in Dayton, Ohio, he published poetry as a teenager and became known for both dialect verse and work that explored Black life in turn-of-the-century America.
