Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah is a Sierra Leonean author and human rights activist who rose to fame with his acclaimed memoir, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, which details his experiences as a child soldier during Sierra Leone's civil war[1][3]. He was born on November 23, 1980, in Mogbwemo, Bonthe District, Sierra Leone, and later moved to the United States in 1998, where he completed his education and became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Children Affected by War[1][2][7]. Beah has also published novels including Radiance of Tomorrow (2014) and Little Family (2020)[1].
