Irving A. Leonard
Irving A. Leonard (1896–1996) was an American historian and translator specializing in Spanish American history and literature. He earned his M.A. in 1925 and Ph.D. in 1928 from the University of California at Berkeley under Herbert E. Bolton's influence, taught at institutions like Brown University, and worked as Assistant Director of the Humanities Division at the Rockefeller Foundation. Leonard is renowned for works such as *Baroque Times in Old Mexico* and *Books of the Brave*, which advanced the cultural history of colonial Hispanic America.
