Igor Barreto

Ígor Barreto (born 1952 in San Fernando de Apure, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan poet, essayist, critic, publisher, and university professor. He studied art theory at the University Ion Luca Caragiale in Bucharest, Romania, and has received awards including the 1986 Premio Municipal de Literatura for poetry and the 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship. His notable works include Crónicas llanas (1989), Carama (2001), El Llano ciego (2006), El campo / El ascensor: Poesía reunida (2014), La sombra del apostador (2021), Inmundo (2024), and Bigcock (2025).
