Ian Swingland

Ian Richard Swingland (born 2 November 1946) is a British conservationist, ecologist, and author who founded the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) at the University of Kent in 1989, serving as its director and the first Chair in Conservation Biology in the UK. Educated at London, Edinburgh, and Oxford Universities, he has worked on biodiversity management in 42 countries, advised major corporations and organizations like the World Bank, and contributed to the Convention on Biological Diversity. He authored the autobiography 'The Law of the Wild: An Ecologist’s Life' and was convicted in 2017 of conspiring to commit fraud by false representation.
