Ian Birell

Ian Birrell is an award-winning British journalist, foreign correspondent, and columnist, named Foreign Reporter of the Year and Columnist of the Year at the 2015 British Press Awards. He served as a speechwriter and adviser to David Cameron ahead of the 2010 UK election and co-founded Africa Express with Damon Albarn to promote African music. Birrell has written extensively on social issues, including investigative pieces on disabilities, autism, and health system failures, informed by his personal experiences such as the death of his daughter.
