Hermann Zapf
Hermann Zapf (1918-2015) was a renowned German type designer and calligrapher, born in Nuremberg, who created over 50 influential typefaces including Palatino, Optima, and Zapfino across hot metal, phototypesetting, and digital technologies. He taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology, contributed to digital typography, and was married to typeface designer Gudrun Zapf-von Hesse. Widely regarded as one of the greatest type designers of all time, his work spanned Roman, Cyrillic, Arabic, and Cherokee alphabets.
