Herman Chernoff

Herman Chernoff is an American applied mathematician, statistician, and physicist renowned for his work in sequential analysis, optimal design of experiments, and large sample theory. He held faculty positions at the University of Illinois, Stanford University, MIT, and Harvard University, where he currently serves as Professor Emeritus. Born in New York City in 1923, Chernoff has made foundational contributions to statistical decision making and the visual presentation of statistical data.
