Herbert Read
Sir Herbert Edward Read (1893–1968) was a prominent English poet, art historian, literary critic, and philosophical anarchist who became the chief British advocate and interpreter of modern art movements from the 1930s to the 1960s. He co-founded the Institute of Contemporary Arts and was renowned for his influential works on art education, such as 'Education Through Art,' while also being one of the earliest English writers to engage with existentialism. Knighted in 1953, Read remained an active writer and lecturer until his death from cancer in 1968.
