Henry Thatcher
Henry Knox Thatcher was a rear admiral in the United States Navy, best known for his service during the American Civil War, including commanding the screw frigate Colorado in the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron and participating in the battles of Fort Fisher.[1][2] Born on his grandfather General Henry Knox's estate in Thomaston, Maine, he briefly attended West Point before joining the Navy as a midshipman in 1823, rising through the ranks with assignments in various squadrons worldwide.[1][3] He retired in 1870 and died in 1880 outside Boston.[1][4]
