Henry Newbolt Sir
Sir Henry John Newbolt (1862–1938) was an English poet, novelist, historian, and government adviser, best known for his patriotic poems such as 'Vitaï Lampada' and 'Drake's Drum,' which celebrated British naval heroism and imperial virtues. Born in Bilston, Staffordshire, he was educated at Clifton College and Oxford, became a barrister, and later authored influential works including the 1921 report 'The Teaching of English in England' that shaped modern English studies. Knighted in 1915 and made a Companion of Honour in 1922, he contributed to war propaganda and telecommunications during World War I.
