Henry Brackenbury (sir.)

Sir Henry Brackenbury (1837-1914) was a British general, military administrator, and writer on military subjects, known for his reforms in the Indian Army and key roles in the War Office Intelligence Branch and as Director General of Ordnance during the South African War.[1][2] Born in Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, as the youngest son of William Brackenbury, he was commissioned in the Royal Artillery in 1856, served in the Indian Mutiny, and later became Professor of Military History at the Royal Military Academy Woolwich, authoring works on artillery history.[1][2][3] He received numerous honors including G.C.B. and Privy Counsellor status upon retirement in 1904.[1]
