Henry Alford

Henry Alford (1810–1871) was an English churchman, theologian, textual critic, scholar, poet, hymnodist, and writer, known for his Greek New Testament commentary and hymns.[1][4] A prodigy who wrote Latin odes and a history of the Jews before age ten, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, served as vicar of Wymeswold, and became Dean of Canterbury in 1857.[3][6] He edited the Contemporary Review, produced a Bible revision, and died in Canterbury.[1][2]
