Henri Charriere
Henri Charrière was a French writer and former prisoner in French Guiana who became famous for his 1969 autobiographical novel Papillon, detailing his incarceration and escape from Devil's Island. Though he claimed the book was largely true, modern researchers believe much of the material came from other inmates, leading many to view it as fiction rather than a true autobiography. He also wrote a sequel titled Banco in 1973.
