Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (c. 1621/1622–1676) was a major German Baroque writer and one of the most important prose authors of the 17th century. He is best known for the picaresque novel "Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus Teutsch," which depicts the upheavals of the Thirty Years' War with vivid realism and humor.
