Hans 1908- Himmelheber
Hans Himmelheber (1908–2003) was a German ethnographer, art anthropologist, collector, and dealer who revolutionized African art history through his research on artistic personalities and aesthetics.[2][4] Born in Karlsruhe to a family furniture business owner, he apprenticed in banking, discovered African art in Paris, studied anthropology in Tübingen, Munich, and Berlin, and undertook over fifteen expeditions to West and Central Africa.[1][5] He authored books on African peoples and artists, lectured widely, and held visiting professorships, such as at Columbia University.[1]
