H. J. Fleure

Herbert John Fleure (1877-1969) was a British zoologist, geographer, and anthropologist born in Guernsey, who studied at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and advanced through academic roles there, becoming Professor of Anthropology and Geography from 1917 to 1930 before moving to Victoria University, Manchester as its first Professor of Geography. He authored influential works on human geography and anthropology, including *Human Geography in Western Europe* (1918), *The Peoples of Europe* (1922), and the 10-volume *Corridors of Time* series (1927-1956) co-authored with H. J. E. Peake. Fleure held prestigious positions such as secretary and president of the Geographical Association, was elected FRS in 1936, and contributed significantly to Welsh anthropological studies.
