Gwen Raverat
Gwendolen Mary 'Gwen' Raverat (née Darwin), granddaughter of Charles Darwin, was an English wood engraver, painter, and illustrator who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and married French artist Jacques Raverat in 1911. She became a founder member of the Society of Wood Engravers, produced acclaimed wood engravings inspired by nature and old masters, and published her popular memoir Period Piece in 1952. After her husband's early death in 1925, she raised two daughters in Cambridge while building a successful career as an artist and critic.
