Gregory of Tours

Gregory of Tours (born Georgius Florentius), a Gallo-Roman historian and Bishop of Tours from 573 until his death, is known as the 'father of French history' for his seminal work *Decem Libri Historiarum* (History of the Franks), the primary source for Merovingian Gaul. Born into an aristocratic family with strong ecclesiastical ties in central Gaul, he chronicled political events, royal intrigues, and miracles of saints like Martin of Tours.
