Gregory Baum
Gregory Baum (1923-2017) was a prominent Canadian theologian, sociologist, and author known for his influential role in the Second Vatican Council, where he contributed to ecumenism, interreligious dialogue, and the document Nostra Aetate. Born in Berlin to a Jewish mother and Protestant father, he fled to Canada as a refugee, converted to Catholicism, became an Augustinian priest, and later left the priesthood to marry. Baum authored over 20 books, advocated for progressive causes including liberation theology and same-sex relationships, and in his 2016 autobiography revealed his homosexuality.
