Gottlob C Cast Martin Henry Haertel
Gottlob C. Cast was a German-American maltster from Kewaskum, Wisconsin, who traveled to Japan where he worked amid unfamiliar conditions, documenting his experiences in letters home that described the frustrations and satisfactions of his labor. Despite some successes, his ailing health led to his death, and he was buried in the Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery. He is also listed as a member of the Modern Language Association from Peru, Nebraska.
