Gordon Maxwell

Gordon Stirling Maxwell (1938–2024) was a Scottish archaeologist renowned for his pioneering work in aerial reconnaissance for archaeology and significant contributions to the study of Roman Scotland.[1] He established the aerial survey programme at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) in 1976, leading to discoveries such as the Roman fort at Doune in Stirlingshire.[1]
