Gordon J. Laing
Gordon Jennings Laing (1869-1945) was a prominent Canadian-American classical scholar, born in London, Ontario. He earned his B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1891 and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, later becoming a key figure at the University of Chicago as professor of Latin, dean of the faculties, and editor of Classical Philology. Laing played a significant role in founding the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, and served as president of both CAMWS (1919-20) and the American Philological Association (1924-25).
